Miss Mary earned a B.A. in piano and an M.A. in music theory from California State University, Northridge. She started teaching for Junior Music Academy in Ventura County in 1983, opened her own branch of JMA in Orange County in 1989, and established JMA Kona in 1998. In 2018, JMA Kona celebrated 20 years of bringing innovative and fun music education to Kona's keiki.

JMA embraces the philosophy that young music makers need to be given the freedom to create their own music from their very first lessons, using improvisation as a learning tool.

Classes meet once a week in small groups where parents actively participate, allowing for fun, exciting, and engaging activities for children and parents alike! Our Junior Course, designed especially with the older preschooler and kindergartener in mind, uses the Very Young Pianist method, along with the unique Junior Music Academy curriculum.

Teacher Mary is so gentle with the under 2 year old class. She is creative and knows how to connect with the kids. It is really a wonderful and affordable class to expose your kids to music. Highly recommend.

Our daughter looks forward to her weekly class at JMA every week. She's in the toddler class, where they spend time with rhythmic activities, moving to different beats and basic familiarity with the keyboard. She has gained a better understanding of music and had a lot of fun jumping around in the process. The lessons are always enjoyable for her and her daddy.
