Los Gatos youths learn to be real-life guitar heroes at new music education studio.
Simulated musical instruments were all the rage in the ‘00s, but the kids of the present day are more interested in the real thing.
In response to declining sales, video game makers have begun replacing toy guitars with authentic instruments. New games like Rock Band 3 and Power Gig: Rise of the SixString feature actual electric guitars that serve as game controllers.
Tiffany Petrossi, founder and director of the Los Gatos facility Rockin’ Kidz Creative Learning Studio, is helping today’s young people transform from virtual musicians into real ones. Her school, which opened its doors on January 3rd, offers year-round private lessons in guitar, piano, bass, voice and songwriting, as well as parent/child music classes for toddlers between the ages of 2 and 4.
Petrossi hopes to further the musical growth of tomorrow’s real-life rock bands and guitar heroes. “Everyone’s always humming the tunes of the latest pop stars—Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber—but these rock stars and pop icons are well-trained professionals, ” she notes. “We all start somewhere. ”
Petrossi, a songwriter, performer, actress and mother of four, believes that learning music should be a pleasure for her students, not a chore. “We value training and education, but we also put a fun spin on it, ” she states.
Though Rockin’ Kidz’ students are predominantly young people, the school welcomes “kids” of all ages who are interested in expanding their musical knowledge. Petrossi was recently nominated as Best Songwriter in Metro Silicon Valley’s Best of Silicon Valley Readers Poll. She is the founder of Rockin’ Moms, an organization that celebrates and promotes musician mothers.
