  • I would recommend this business

I cant remember when I didn't have the dream of learning to play the piano. After retiring my dream came true but only after I found the perfect teacher. Louis Yungling is that teacher. I had other teachers in the first few years. None with the kind, caring qualities that excite you about coming to your lesson. There are many who can teach the names of notes, the chords, counting, the keys, etc but Louis teaches you to put those skills into practice. He teaches you to feel music in your body, to be comfortable and be one with the instrument. He helps you build confidence that enables you to enjoy the experience of playing. Louis brought out the musician in me!

  • I would recommend this business

Louis is a rare find. He is highly technically proficient in all aspects of music and he is an effective communicator that can translate musical ideas / concepts into practical and actionable steps. Technique, theory, and logical application all rolled into the lessons. I learned a TON from Louis, I have been studying music a long time and his guidance on the piano has vastly increased my knowledge and understanding. Excellent experience.

From Our Website

You practice a lot, but despite your best efforts you have not been able to take your playing to the level you want. You yearn for more confidence and enjoyment in performance, or perhaps you wish for greater physical freedom and expressive power. The good news? These challenges are normal and everyone I've ever worked with faces them in one form or another. And I do, too! You can do this. You can learn a way of preparation that helps you identify habits that get in the way and transform them into habits that free you to be the musician you yearn to be.

I teach traditional piano lessons with a mindfulness-based approach to a natural and comfortable use of the body, deep listening, and confident performing. Lessons take place in my Portland home studio or online via FaceTime or Zoom. Freeing the Body: Being aware of your environment and feeling comfortable at your instrument is necessary to building the habit of confidence. Extend this awareness to the way you use your fingers, hands, arms, and shoulders, and you will free yourself of unwanted tension and develop a reliable technique that allows you to play freely, powerfully and with natural expressiveness.

You only need a few items to enjoy successful online piano lessons, and I will help you set up your environment for the best results. If you've never had an online piano lesson, I invite you to a complimentary piano lesson consultation so you can be sure it works for you. If you have any questions about anything you've read here, or wonder where to purchase any items you might need, I will be happy to help you.
