How Lessons Work

Perhaps one of the most commonly asked questions from students is how, precisely, do online lessons work. Provided the student has applied and been accepted into the studio, lessons proceed in a fairly systematic way.

* Once an assignment has been submitted, students will receive a PDF booklet that includes a response to their uploaded assignment within 24 hours of the due date and time.

* Students will then be given a new assignment and expected to complete the assignment by the next due date.

* Courses will be available to students to help them solidify their foundation and improve their technique. These courses are mostly self-guided, with the exception of counterpoint, orchestration, and instrumentation, and can be done at the students leisure.

Our instructor has created literally thousands of pages of individualized feedback and has been teaching for over 15 years. As a result, he is qualified to teach students The Craft of Music Composition.
If you have been struggling to compose music, you're not alone! Learn the fundamentals of composing online with these seven rules that will help get you started quickly. 1 Keep Your Compositions Simple: Don't try to write a symphony on your first try. Start simple and gradually work up to more complicated projects.
Since it's inception, we've committed ourselves to provide students with quality feedback and instruction. Our students have gone on to work in video, music production, private instruction, graduate programs in music composition, and as published composers. We have a simple mission: To bring the study of music composition to students across the globe.
The Elements of Music Composition gives composers the missing puzzle piece to create musical works that endure and become richer and more meaningful with each performance. Composers learn how a musical work can grow out of a single seed and connect the different disciplines within music composition.

I've been a student of Kevin Ure's for over a year now. His attention to detail, quick response to questions, knowledge, and caring manner make for a very effective course of study for composers. A typical lesson seems to include the submission of an original work, or an assignment and then a detailed set of feedback in response. The feedback is provided through a pdf that is easy to print, export to iPad or take with you even on an iphone.

He includes illustrations and screen shots of your music so that you can easily see what you need to work on. He also offers courses. So far I have taken Counterpoint and a Music Theory course. Both of these courses have helped me to immensely improve my skills. I know his studio is competitive and it can be hard to get in, but it is a simple online application and well worth the time spent.

When I started I was a beginner so I know that he does take a certain amount of beginning students. If you are serious about learning to compose you need to visit his website!
