The Voice Studio of Jessica Renfro Although this year is my fifteenth studying opera and classical singing, my performing career started years earlier as a singer/songwriter in my small town. Music was the first thing in my life for which I was prepared to devote hours of my free time without ever thinking about the fact that I was "doing work". What this caused me to discover at an early age was that when you have a strong passion for something, things that you feel you "should" do become a natural part of your life.

When you fall in love with singing, you begin to see it everywhere. Vocal technique and music theory are definitely singing. So are languages, poetry, fitness, anatomy, public speaking, acting, time management, networking, math, etc...ad infinitum. When you open a door to a skill you are passionate about, no other door truly stays closed to you. In short, being truly passionate about learning anything means being truly passionate about life.

I want my students to sing well. I want them to have a healthy, age-appropriate sound and firm grasp of technique on which they can build a lifetime of progress. Equally importantly, when my students sing, I want them to truly touch their audience because the passion they have for what they are singing is spread to their listeners. That, in my mind, is the only reason to perform. Success can be defined in many ways, and I enthusiastically welcome ambition, but there is nothing more successful than having a positive effect on the people around you, and there is no more direct way of doing that than singing.

First of all, congratulations on deciding to make music a bigger part of your life, or for deciding to take your voice studies to the next level! Singing is a skill that can take a lifetime to perfect, but the journey is deeply satisfying for both you and your audience. Finding a voice teacher is an important decision. A good voice teacher gives you knowledge, self-awareness and the confidence to step onto the stage and share your unique gift with others.

Why should you study with me?

I have three degrees in voice (B.M., M.M., G.P.D.), studied with some of the top teachers and coaches in my industry and attended the Peabody Conservatory.

I have ten years of teaching experience and strive to provide a warm, supportive atmosphere where my students feel comfortable trying new things and challenging themselves to meet their ambitions.

I am well-versed in the science of singing, but there is no cookie-cutter approach to teaching. We will find what works best for you.
