Suzuki Violin Studio The Bennett Suzuki Violin Studio of Portland is the perfect place to discover and cultivate your natural musical ability in a warm and nurturing environment. Suzuki was always developing new ideas and techniques to keep his teaching fresh and relevant. I look for creative ways to present the "building blocks" of the Suzuki Method, and tailor the lessons to fit each situation.

My focus on praise and positive encouragement comes directly from Dr. Suzuki's teaching, modeling, and inspiration. Musical ability is not an inborn talent, but an ability which can be developed.

I scheduled an initial meeting for my 3-year-old with the intention to beginning private violin lessons. She teaches out of her home, and when we arrived 5 minutes early, we had to wait while she ate cereal. Then, she did not seem very experienced with young children, and did not interact well with my child. He cried when she took the violin out of his hands, and then ignored him when another student arrived.

During the lesson, she said she'd contact me shortly afterwards to set up my son's next lesson, but when he started crying she ignored him and did not even acknowledge us when we left. Despite all this, I hoped to try again, knowing that my son was very excited to learn. We rented a violin, as she had instructed. Since then, she has never responded to my messages. Not very professional.
