Son Lewis Son Lewis has been teaching beginner and intermediate students for over 30 years, using his unique "Box System". In the Box System, Son shows how to find everything you need to know within a four-fret range on the guitar neck and then use arpeggio's (extended scales) to create melodic and exciting guitar solo's up and down the neck. With his unique style, Son also shows guitarists how to blend notes and chords together to create beautiful "performance pieces" from single-note melodies written on sheet music.

There is an early emphasis on reading the musical staff and identifying the notes and discussions of basic musical theory so the student understand enough about musical construction to experiment on their own and find new and exciting things to play.

Son teaches in a relaxed and stress-free manner in the student's home, allowing each and every student to proceed at their own comfortable pace. Parents or an adult guardian MUST be at home for the entire duration of each lesson.

Young students (between 7 and 14) are a particular specialty and lessons can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Monthly payment schedules offer discounts for advance payment.

My Teaching Philosophy. When teaching beginning or intermediate guitar students, my #1 priority is to get you to actually play guitar as soon as possible - this builds your self-confidence and insures an element of fun that you will need. We will work with musical or guitar foundation but providing you the ability to actually PLAY means that your practicing will be fun and not so much a chore
06/11 Sound Effects Records 229 Main St #6, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 2pm to 4pm. Son Lewis/Acoustic Solo returns to an old "favorite place to play". Join us for an afternoon of Blues, Roots and GREAT browsing amongst the inventory of one of the finest musicologists that I personally know.!
Although renowned for his love of Blues and R&B, Son also loves performing a wide variety of Classic Rock and Soul tunes that are more appropriate for Club Dates! Here are two "typical" set lists which might comprise a hard-partying evening of live music at a club, coffeehouse or concert hall near you!
There is a nice mix of acoustic and amplified playing as well as choice of tunes. This CD is so easy to listen to with the tasteful, well placed guitar licks and whether Jerry is playing acoustic or amplified harp he gives you just what ya need, when ya need it. He's compiled a CD that documents the development of the Blues from the thirties to the nineties.
In addition to his recorded and live music performances, Son Lewis has a long and varied performance career. Son's song appears in the early moments of the episode when a Federal witness is in a bar explaining to Agent Pride that he needed to get away for a drink before "doing the right thing". Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad: A Pseudoclassical Tragifarce in a Bastard French Tradition - (as Manuel, the Head Bellboy).Lordi Films - Songs and scoring/composition for feature films The Big Weekend and Love In A Coffee Shop.

Son Lewis
Guitar Teacher
Son Lewis has been an active figure on the Blues music scene for some time. His work as a modern day exponent of the Blues, and R&B, has led him to recognition as a performer and recording artist.

Son began playing Blues guitar in the 1960's, influenced greatly by artists as diverse as Robert Johnson, Hubert Sumlin (whom he accompanied on stage in December 2006), Otis Rush, and Elmore James. His own particular guitar style developed under the guidance of Blues guitarist Danny Kalb (founder of the Blues Project, a seminal Bluesband of the 1960's). Lewis' reputation has been built upon solid live solo performances and with his own SON LEWIS Blues Band, which has featured former members of MINK DEVILLE, THE RICKI LEE JONES BAND, THE JITTERZ, EXUMA, IMPACT, THE SHOTS, and CASTLE BROWNE.

As a solo artist, performing the traditional country Blues, and with his band, rocking juke joints with electric blues, Son has become known as a faithful, and loving interpreter of this nearly lost musical art form. In live performance, TV, radio, and on recordings, Son Lewis has proved to audiences everywhere that the Blues is a vibrant, and exciting form of musical entertainment!
