Sharon West

Sharon knew at a very young age that the arts were her life and doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t singing, dancing and acting. She began her professional career at the age of seven years old and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and numerous New York nightclubs. Her love of music extended to playing the piano and she is a versatile musician with a strong foundation in the classical method that really rocks!!

Sharon grew up in Brooklyn, NY and has trained with some of New York City’s premier voice, acting and music teachers. She just recently moved to the Boston area.

Sharon majored in Theater at Adelphi University and Brooklyn College. She graduated cum laude with honors in theater.

As an educator, Sharon has taught in the NYC and State Public Schools – she is a certified Theater teacher and has worked with hundreds of students. As a Drama Teacher, she created original theater curriculum and coached students for auditions at the City’s distinguished performing arts high schools. As Cultural Arts Advisor for a Westchester County middle school, she created, directed and staged numerous programs, including: a lunch-time concert series and a grade-wide arts program based on the musical “West Side Story.” In addition, she has directed after-school clubs and summer workshops in creative dramatics and musical theater.

As a private piano and voice instructor, she has guided her students in piano and vocal technique, performance/audition skills, music theory and musicianship. She has prepared students for recitals, auditions and performances. One of the events was the Fairfield, CT Schubert Piano Festival. All of her students received high scores (fours and fives on a scale of five).

She has participated in various professional workshops, including: The Roundabout Theater’s acting and production techniques for “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Twelve Angry Men”; “Broadway: The American Musical” sponsored by PBS; the Theater Development Fund’s “Exploring the Processes of Theater for the Classroom Studio”; and “Write a Play” Teacher Training Institute at the Young Playwrights.
