From Our Website
We realize that you have a choice between manny different music schools in the Santa Monica and West Los Angeles areas. However, we are confident you will love taking music lessons at the Santa Monica Academy of Music and would like to offer you a FREE trial lesson. We want every student that enrolls in lessons to succeed and love music. As such, please note that there are age requirements to enroll in private lessons. We usually require violin students to be at least 4-5 years old; piano students to be 5-6 years old; guitar and voice students to be 7-8 years old.
We are proud to be part of the Begmann project, in conjunction with the Santa Monica-Malibu School District's Education Foundation. Semi-provate lessons for qualified students are offered and wholly funded by the Peggy Bergmann Arts Endowment Fund, and provide much needed instruction and support to students who are ambitious, engaged and who love music. We are proudly working with SMMUSD students ranging from 4th through 12th grades. We just set up a Facebook page to let students/parents and anybody else that is interested know of what is going on at the Santa Monica Academy of Music.
The Academy offers guitar lessons for beginner through advanced level students on acoustic and electric guitar. All styles can be taught including rock guitar, blues guitar, folk guitar, flamenco guitar, and classical guitar. We also teach electric bass guitar lessons and ukulele lessons. Buzz Gravelle has over twenty years experience as a music instructor, during which time he has taught thousands of students. He is the founder, co-owner, and director for the Santa Monica Academy of Music, and the head guitar instructor.
Private instruction is at the heart of the Academy. Piano is our most popular instrument for students to study. We understand that the relationship between the student and teacher is essential for student success. Because we have seven piano instructors on staff, we recommend a free 15-20 minute initial evaluation with the director before a student's first piano lesson. This is also a great opportunity for parents to ask any questions about scheduling, philosophy, and enrollment. We want every student that enrolls in lessons to succeed.
Performing music is a thrilling and enriching experience that should be available to anyone who is learning an instrument. The Santa Monica Academy of music provides all students enrolled in private lessons with the opportunity to participate in our semi-annual recitals. These recitals are popular events at which students share their passion for making music with their friends and family. We hold "junior recitals" for our youngest performers--kindergarten through 2nd grade. These warm, supportive events build confidence and self-esteem through music and lay the foundation for lifelong confident performers.
