We offer a comprehensive, holistic approach to piano instruction, incorporating into weekly lessons repertoire, technique, music theory, rhythms, ear training, sight-reading, creativity, and improvisation. We participate in the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program, offering students the benefit of progressing through an effectively sequenced, nationally recognized course of study.
Song-writing is offered as its own subject by private instruction, or may be incorporated into piano or guitar lessons. Song-writing students who are not proficient in either piano or guitar, should choose an instrument as an important foundational skill for song-writing, and may work on their playing and writing skills simultaneously. We offer song-writing intensives and meet-up groups, as well as opportunities to perform original songs at recitals and other events throughout the year.
Our private instruction in guitar offers a thorough understanding of foundational music theory, playing rhythm guitar, chords and melodies, barre chords, scales and arpeggios, and reading tablature. This is taught using a variety of familiar songs, and with an approach that utilizes some classical, folk, and rock/blues styles and techniques.
