I asked around Durango for the best guitar teacher in town. Without exception Pete Giuliani was the name repeated to me. I contacted Pete and started right away.We became friends almost instantly. Once, talking with another friend at a local coffee shop about a song I wanted to learn, Cat Stevens' "Father and Son, " a complete stranger turned to say, "That guy can teach you anything!"

Pete's music is founded on his study of classical guitar and his love of Rock, Blues, Folk, Jazz, Country, Bluegrass, and World Music. His early influences include Bach and The Beatles, but his exposure to progressive rock bands such as Yes, Genesis, and ELP ignited his passion for the guitar. Fusion artists such as Al DiMeola, Jean-Luc, Ponty, and John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra provided further early inspiration.
The PG Band plays Progressive Americana, acoustic and electric sets covering vast musical terrain from gritty rock, funk, blues and country tunes, to imaginative progressive and fusion based adventures. With covers from the last 5 decades, plus lots of great original music, there's something for everyone!
Pete has been teaching professionally since 1988 using a creative, student-centered approach to learning. The emphasis is on having fun and learning the music you love in a relaxed atmosphere at his home studio in the beautiful Animas Valley. Students of all ages are welcome and Pete is fluent in a variety of musical styles including Rock, Blues, Metal, Jazz, Folk, Classical, Country, and Bluegrass.
Pete is an accomplished musician with a wide repertoire. He can play acoustic solo, country, blues, classical and rock with equal precision. His live shows include great interaction with the audience and he is able to adjust to the flow of the crowd. He is fun and great to listen to and we try to find him whenever we are in town.

Pete came highly recommended to our family by a local musician and has exceeded all expectations as the primary guitar teacher for our son. During the time our son has been taking lessons with Pete his knowledge and understanding of the guitar has grown dramatically. Pete is a rare kind of instructor; He teaches all ages and levels, he is experienced as a singer, songwriter and professional performer, both solo and with groups. He can rapidly decode a song from a recording or youtube video and then transpose it for the student's immediate use. His personal repertory is massive. As teacher he is very tuned in to his students needs and learning styles, and he can play most styles/types of music.
He reads music fluently and can teach theory, but does not require it in his students. He will tweek his teaching technique to help us along. I have enjoyed my lessons, and learned immensely from Pete.

I have known Pete for a few decades and finally got around to taking guitar lessons starting in 2020. He has helped me advance from learning the raw basics to now playing in a band and having a lot of fun doing it. He is a careful and methodical instructor and he has the experience to make lessons as productive as possible without being overwhelming. I'd highly recommend Pete!

Eleven years ago I decided to pursue a lifelong dream of learning guitar. I asked around Durango's music stores for recommendations and in every case Pete Giuliani was mentioned first. I took lessons from Pete until my marriage ended and I was forced to move out of the area for financial reasons, but I started my youngest son with lessons from Pete in my stead.
He would later study drums with Pete's help. After I found a way to return to the area I started my daughter with lessons from Pete, and some time later my eldest studied Bass with him before switching to electric guitar. All four of us enjoyed our lessons with him very much. I recommend Pete Giuliani without reservation.

I never thought I would be able to play the guitar even though it has been a lifelong dream of mine ( as I am pretty old! +60). Pete has helped make this dream come true and I appreciate him and his teaching style so much. He designs lessons based on what you want to learn to play and is very encouraging while at the same time able to give honest feedback so you can gain insights to your own playing at every lesson. I highly recommend Pete to anyone who is thinking of wanting to learn to play the guitar, no matter what your age!
