Julie Sondag teaches piano in such a fun, age appropriate manner that I am going to enroll my five year old daughter in a second Piano-A-Go-Go class! I had no idea how incorporating play-doh-type material, dry erase boards, small group activities, keyboards, etc., could educate a young child so quickly in recognizing specific piano keys and understanding rythym. Plus, some of the activities are fun to do at home as a family! The physical layout of the Norman Institute for the Performing Arts seems to be geared for all ages, including four and five year olds!
From Our Website
The Norman Music Institute located at 2901 Broce Dr. in Norman Oklahoma has a proven track record of offering quality music lessons year round. Our full time mission is teaching music lessons trusted by over 1,800 families over the past twelve years. The teachers are genuine and they put as much if not more effort into their students success than the student does. I don't feel intimidated by any instructors. In any school I've been to in the past the teacher wanted you to know how much better he was than me, which I didn't like at all.
Our teachers teach every common member of the brass family: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone and Tuba. Students will learn to approach the instrument with a relaxed yet focused mind and body. All aspects of being a brass musician are discussed, from breathing and posture to tone production and technique. Lessons will also include an emphasis on music theory and aural skills (listening) to help further enrich the journey to becoming an outstanding musician. Practice techniques are a main focus.
Our voice teachers primarily focus on popular music. If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice.
Our piano teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. Our piano teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love for the piano with you.
That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child. The main reason to choose Norman Music Institute as your music lesson provider, is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.
Our drum instructors are well versed in many styles of music. A drummer's role is complex and our instructors will help the students develop the intuitive skills that are expected in all live playing situations. NMI's drum curriculum focuses on technical exercises designed to improve speed and form. Students also develop independent exercises that are required to play the music they want. The curriculum includes beginning mallet lessons that prepare students who desire to enroll in their school's band program.
Our bass teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical bass lessons on electric and acoustic bass. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song. That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.
