Frequently asked questions: What do you learn in your music lessons? That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach. A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having had lessons as a child. Learn the songs you want to learn!

Music Academy of Acadiana

If I had to describe The Music Academy in one sentence it would be this: a unique & friendly music lesson experience that focuses on teaching you exactly what you wish to learn while getting the fundamentals.

As a guitar player for nearly 20 years, I have personally hand picked instructors who share my passion for music and teaching! Our goal has always been to create a lesson experience unlike any other. We pride ourselves on really getting to know each student, their personality, likes/dislikes, and most of all finding the most effective methods to get them playing at a high level - quickly!

My hope is that if you have ever thought about playing an instrument, or looking to get to the next level, give us a call...we are all real musicians who share the same passion as you do. We can help you reach your goals each step of the way!

Products & Services

Guitar Lessons

Guitar Lessons

(for ages 7 and up)
Our guitar teachers teach rock, blues, metal, country and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.

Piano

Piano

(for ages 5 and up)
Our teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. Our teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love for the piano with you.

Drum

Drum

(for ages 9 and up)
We have one of the most professional drum lesson rooms in Lafayette, with state of the art room and a Yamaha drum kit for students to use. Our drum instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged. We have many drum students who play in local bands be it in rock clubs or their local churches. You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons. Beginning students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for only $25. 00. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.

Voice

Voice

(for ages 6 and up)
Our voice teachers primarily focus on popular music. If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. We not only teach singers, but also local TV and radio personalities who want to enhance their speaking voices.

Customer Testimonials

I Learned more in less than a year that I could have ever learned on own. Instructors are patient and teach you whatever you want to learn. Better than that, they are great musicians themselves. Playing in the student band really gives you the opportunity to put your new talent to use. Playing with other musicians is a great motivator to better yourself musically and it's fun as well. Rating 5 out of 5.

Don't wait any longer to get started at this school. I originally thought I was too old but I've learned that I should have started real lessons years ago. All of the videos and books won't get you playing any faster than face to face instruction. My instructor encourages me to excel. Band has given me a rare opportunity to play with others and experience the pressure of performing in front of others. I wish the school would have been around when I was just starting. I might be on tour right now...who knows?.....lol Rating 5 out of 5.

Mrs. Angel has taken Reagan from zero experience on the clarinet to being voted Most Improved by her school band class in less than a year! She understands Reagan’s learning and attention challenges and adjusts her teaching style accordingly! She is also helping Kennedy Rose develop her God-given voice talent. Sarah and Angel at Musical Theatre Camp are amazing teachers and creating such a fun atmosphere for creative expression and learning! Kendra and Mandy at the front desk are extremely helpful and super sweet!

Attending guitar classes with Josh at the Music Academy of Acadiana has been an incredible experience. As a 29 year-old, I was a little nervous about being such a beginner, but Josh and the staff are so encouraging that I felt completely at ease from my first lesson. I have been taking lessons for 6 months and they are the highlight of my week. I now feel competent enough to play more songs than I could have ever imagined. Thank you Music Academy of Acadiana, you have changed the way I listen to and play music in a new, thrilling way.

My kids love their lessons, I love that I'm able to learn a little right along with them. Love the open door policy as well!! Great job to all the instructors and staff!

Music Academy of Acadiana has very talented, caring and friendly staff. If you have a child wanting to learn an instrument or just trying to find themselves, please consider enrolling them here. My daughter started guitar lessons here 6 years ago when they were Guitar Acadiana. At the time, my daughter was very shy and timid. Tim and Jim believed in her and helped her believe in herself and find her inner voice. She is now singing and has competed in several competitions, including an audition at America's Got Talent. Thank you so much Music Academy of Acadiana.

From Our Website

Our guitar lessons focus on getting you to quickly be able to play your favorite songs or compositions! The guitar instructors at the Music Academy of Acadiana are all experienced teachers and performers and can help you with any music style that you are interested in learning. Guitar lessons with an instructor is the quickest way to learn proper techniques, theory, and also can help prevent bad habits from developing. Having a guitar instructor is beneficial in that they can show you in "real time" how a song, lead lick or scale should be played; as other methods of learning can't see if you are playing something correctly or not!

For all woodwind instruments, we teach a mixture of methods with emphasis on reading music, handling and care of the instrument and learning a repertoire appealing to the student. Although we utilize method books to structure lessons, we also allow the student to choose the type of music they want to learn to play. We feel you can learn your instrument from the music of Disney or Broadway Musicals just as effectively as you can from Bach, Beethoven or Brahms! Our teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals.

Piano has traditionally been the most popular instrument to learn and we have great instructors ready to help you quickly play it! Our brass instructors will teach the styles of music you are looking to learn and will work to develop technical and physical skills necessary for student's advancement. They teach you engaging and fun repertoire while building a strong foundation for technique and development of tone. Students can grow musically by learning repertoire that can include works from Baroque through Modern music as well as orchestral excerpts. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student and include technique, ear training, sight reading, and music theory if desired.
