The Music Academy of North Carolina was established in 1982 by Dr. Ivan Battle, in response to the need for a community music school that offered exceptional music education in a structured, well-paced course of study. The Music Academy's dramatic growth from just three teachers and 20 students in 1982 to its current 45 instructors and almost 1000 students, clearly indicates that the school's presence is both needed and valued.

From Our Website

Private music lessons are designed to provide students with the highest quality of teaching in a fun and rewarding atmosphere.

Our mission at The Music Academy is to provide high quality music education to people of all ages, interests, abilities, and backgrounds. It is best understood by hearing stories from our students. If you have a story you'd like to share, please contact our Associate Director, Stephanie Foley Davis at sfoley_davis@musicacademync.org.

Many people know that The Music Academy provides private lessons and group classes in the community, but we do so much more! Each music department hosts an annual festival and/or competition, and we invite our own students as well as any outside musicians to come play or sing for comments, compete in competitions, participate in our festival workshops and galas, or just come to hear our masterclasses or concerts. Our facilities enable all this with large and mid-sized spaces for performances and ensemble rehearsals, and we make these spaces available to rent to outside groups for rehearsals, meetings, and performances.

There are many ways to support The Music Academy, including joining the Lessons For Life Society, whose members make a multi-year pledge to help ensure our future sustainability. As a non-profit we are so grateful for the help from our many volunteers on a day-to-day basis as well as for special events. Please consider becoming a volunteer, including serving on committees or on our board.
