Ethos Ethos believes that all kids deserve access to the benefits of music education. We offer sliding scale music lessons from our headquarters in North Portland and facilitate music outreach programs for students in Oregon's underserved rural and urban areas.
Services
Founded in 1998 in Portland, Oregon, Ethos is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides music lessons, multicultural performances, and outreach to thousands of students each year. We partner with and listen to students, families, and community advocates to collaboratively identify and remove a variety of barriers to music education.
Ethos was founded in order to share the benefits of music education with kids across Oregon, and we do that in a variety of ways. We hold individual and group music lessons at our headquarters, reach kids in Portland's urban areas through our after-school Music Corps program, and send music teachers to communities with limited access to music education through our Rural Outreach Program.
Since its inception, Ethos has been about community. Our work is made possible through the support of countless parents, volunteers, local business owners, partner organizations, foundation and government supporters. We are thrilled to announce new collaborations with Musicians in Solidarity and Don't Shoot PDX.
Our lessons, classes, and outreach efforts are possible because of the generous organizations and individuals that have supported Ethos over the years. If you would like to help us share the benefits of music education with kids all over Oregon, please consider getting involved in the following ways.

Ethos is an important arts education resource. Sliding scale lessons ensure that programs are affordable for all families. I highly recommend Ethos for music instruction and summer camps! The instructors are exceptional.

Wonderful music teachers, friendly and helpful! They really care about kids getting started and having fun loving making music. Instrument rentals and group/ private lessons are very affordable. Summer camp is really a fun way for kids to try out new kinds of music, different instruments, even singing, all while making new friends. Very highly recommend Ethos!

It's a really good place to go send your children and force them to play music. Plus the people who work there are extremely nice and easy to work with.

The talented teachers here okay multiple instruments each. This helped my child, a beginner, find a band instrument she loved-knowing she could change instruments if needed, as she found one that suited her.

Summer Camp was awesome! My kids and a couple of their friends just completed a week of summer camp at Ethos and they had an amazing week learning music and having a blast. I was impressed with JC, the camp director, and surprised to see how many excellent instructors and helpers they had on hand to ensure the kids had a quality music experience. They have two sessions each day where they practice music in small groups and then they switch off and do choir and art.

They also have a good spot of time mid day to run around and eat lunch outside. All in all, I thought it was a balanced experience and ideal for ages 7 or 8 through 11 or 12. Much more appropriate than School of Rock for younger kids (which I think is more appropriate for middle school aged kids and above). My boys and their cousin are 9 and 10 and loved it - we'll be back next year and will be looking into lessons in the meantime.

Terrible and un accommodating. Instructors just want to get paid and get out.?it shows in my kids lack of interest after her classes. There are so many better places to teach your children music. Not this place.

This is my kids favorite camp of the summer. He loves the build up to the big concert at the end. He has thrived there. Ethos does a nice job of guiding the kids into art---while having fun.

I've been going here for about 7-8 years and it has changed my view on music in a good way. I now have a band, The Fairytale Steroetypes, thanks to this building and all the wonderful people in it. We are going to play at New Season's near Arbor lodge in about a month and I'm soooo pumped. Thanks Ethos!

Ethos is 100% focused on those who cannot afford music lessons. While that is a good thing in some aspects, for those who are fortunate enough to be able to pay for lessons, prepare to take a back seat. Ethos fails to realize who us actually paying their bills and is shortsighted in their business plan. The saddest part of Ethos is that the problems start at the top, with the Board, and roll downward. It's the kids who pay the price for their incompetence.

Ethos provides sliding scale lessons - which is a huge benefit for the many many people who struggle to afford music lessons for their kids.

My daughter takes piano lessons at Ethos. She has a young female teacher who is inspiring her, teaching classics and currant popular songs that keep my daughter engaged. Great asset to N/NE Portland!
