Doctor Note The Doctor Note Academy of Music believes that private instruction is the best way for anyone to learn how to play an instrument. The one-on-one instruction means that students are given instruction that best suits how they as an individual learn.

Also with private lessons a teacher can focus 100% of their attention on that one student to ensure that things such as hand positioning, posture or understanding of a particular concept are correct. If a student has a particular difficulty in one area, the teacher can work on it without hampering the progress of a class of students and alternatively if a student is excelling in one area, the teacher can move on.

When signing-up for private lessons you select a day and 30, 45 or 60 minute time slot which you will attend on a regular weekly basis. Learning to play an instrument well requires an investment of time. It is fun and intrinsically rewarding, but requires practice and patience.

Serving the Kansas City metropolitan area, Doctor Note is Overland Park's premiere location for music lessons and wind instrument repair. Students at Doctor Note have a high success rate in auditions, contests, and competitions. Our teachers are university and /or conservatory trained on their instruments and are the most experienced teachers/performers in the Kansas City area.
At Doctor Note, we believe that private instruction is the best way for anyone to learn how to play an instrument. The one-on-one instruction means that students are given instruction that best suits how they as an individual learn. Also with private lessons a teacher can focus 100% of their attention on that one student to ensure that things such as hand positioning, posture or understanding of a particular concept are correct.
The key to success is daily practice. The more you practice, the more progress you can expect. It is difficult to set an exact amount of time, but it should be everyday and as much as possible. For wind instruments, part of the development process is a strengthening of facial and abdominal muscles.
Every time you do an action it is stored in your memory as previous experience. The next time you want to execute something, your memory is searched for a way to do it. If a memory is not found a new way is created. The more experiences stored, the more likely one is found. Unfortunately, desired and undesired results are not separated; they are simple stored as past examples.
Private lessons are taught year round on a weekly recurring schedule. Average billing allows your monthly tuition to remain the same each month regardless of the actual number of scheduled lessons in any one month. Dates the studio is closed are taken into account in your average billing and are configured to assure everyone has the same number of scheduled lessons.

Harold has done wonderful and professional repairs of my various instruments over the years. Recently I purchased a new clarinet from him and he took the time to explain each option in great detail. Highly recommend the shop for all your musical needs. His knowledge of woodwinds in particular has to be one of the best in the city.

I’ve had multiple horns worked on here. Every time I come in, I’ve been very warmly welcomed by the staff. I primarily get my saxes worked on by Mark Farmer. His work is amazing. Every horn I’ve had there feels like it was made specifically for me after having it worked on their. He also is very fast. Replacing multiple pads, neck cork, and felt within just a few hours.

I can very confidently drop off the horn knowing that if I go out to eat, I’ll get an iMessage telling me he’ll be done in a few minutes and I can come pick it up. They have a massive selection of mouthpieces, reeds, neck-straps, and a few horns on display at all times. Plenty of books to practice out of, and a sizable practice rooms. They make sure you walk out happy.

Always encouraging me to play the horn to make sure it feels right before I leave. I plan on coming back whenever I need work done. This is the best place for any player who wants the best out of their horns or wants to find a place that lets you try out mouthpieces. Not many places in the area that let you try the piece before you buy it, or even have the pieces in store. 100/100 rating.

Perfect place for all of my saxophone needs. Always tells me what wrong with my horn. Even if I come in thinking I only have a small issue, if there are any more issues, I’ll know them all and the price is amazing for how clean the repairs are.

Harold, Barry, Josh, and Annie are just amazing. Not only are they incredible teachers but fun to hang out with during lessons. So no need to leave, you might get a lesson on current events from the front desk lady.

Mark is the man.great repairman and saved me while my band was traveling through KC. So great to find a professional technician and a well-stocked woodwind and brass store while away from home; we touring musicians depend on it!

Our daughter has had Clarinet lessons at Dr Note for 4 years. We've found her teacher and the owner to be most pleasant, patient and reliable. Several times we've had our instruments tuned and maintained, never has there been a charge for these minor adjustments and advice. There also is a full instrument repair service in house.

After finding Doctor Note online and talking to Mark on the phone, I drove 30 minutes to the store. I had a flute that needed to be looked at and adjusted. I did not purchase the flute from Dr. Note only because I did not know about them at the time I bought the flute. Mark fixed the flute while I waited, which took about 5- 10 minutes, and did not charge me!

I was expecting to pay, but what a nice thing to do. Made my day. Dr. Note has a new customer! Oh and for those that may not know, many shops offer repairs but then send you instruments out for repairs. They don't tell you this unless you ask. One time I waited over a month to finally get a flute back from another shop, Having onsite repairs and knowledgeable staff is very important to me. What a great find!

I've taken both my saxes to Dr. Note for repair. He is very nice and a professional repairman. He was able to fix my issues on the spot quickly. He is also very personable and took some time to chat for awhile. He is the ONLY guy i will let touch my saxes. I would highly recommend him. He is as good as they come as far as I'm concerned.

I've been looking for a good technician to repair my saxophone, and a good friend recommended Dr. Note. I had what I believed would be a complicated and expensive job with some intonation problems, but when I got my sax out of the case last night, it sounded better than it had in years. He was a nice guy. He was very professional, and he got the job done within 48 hours for a very reasonable price. I plan to make him my go-to repair guy, and my sax will sing his praises for a long time.
