Daniel Ferreira is a steel drummer and percussionist living in the Fairfield County Area.
He holds a B.A. from Loyola University (New Orleans) in Music Education and a M.M. in Ethnomusicology from Temple University. In 1996 Daniel moved to New Orleans and
attended Loyola University. While in New Orleans he studied with world-renowned jazz drummer Johnny Vidacovich and classical percussionist for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Jim Atwood. Soon after he began playing steel drums and percussion for the Executive Steel
Drum Band. In 2001 he attended Temple University where he gained a master's degree in ethnomusicology. At Temple Daniel studied the musical practices and drumming traditions from
many parts of the world focusing on places like Africa South America and the Caribbean. Daniel is currently the music director at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull CT where he conducts the school's concert band, jazz band, choir, and steel drum/percussion ensemble. He continues playing steel and drum set with his Caribbean group Moment's Notice and with the SunKings, performing styles including Caribbean jazz, bossa nova, and Latin.
