From Our Website

Founded in 2004, New York School of Music is a full service music school located in Walden, NY with a 10,000 square foot facility including lesson rooms, rehearsal rooms, and its own performance space. The school, staffed with music professionals from the Hudson Valley, provides private lessons, group programs, internships and masterclasses to hundreds of aspiring musicians each week. NYSM prides itself on its doors-open approach, encouraging musicians of all levels to come in and be part of its community.

At New York School of Music, we believe music can be transformative in people's lives because it has transformed ours. That's why we do all we can to give musicians of all ages the tools they need in their tool boxes to build a creative life that is meaningful and rewarding. Whether that's as a hobbyist, gigging musician, fulltime pro, soundman, producer. Our music school is located less than 75 miles from Manhattan in Orange County, in the historic downtown of Walden, New York. Based on the philosophy that the best way to learn music is to make it, the school is a welcoming spot for aspiring musicians of all ages to learn, compose and share music; where the unique talents and interests of every individual are recognized, fostered and encouraged.

Each week, you'll see the same instructor, at the same time, most likely for 30 minutes. Your instructor will review what you worked on last time, correct any mistakes, and assign new material. Then, you take your new assignments home and practice them on your own. Your teacher will guide you as to how to practice and for how long, but most teachers recommend at least 5 practice sessions a week, even if each one isn't that long. It's always best to do more practice days for shorter periods of time than it is to cram long practice sessions into only a couple days!

Our music production classes are a one-of-a-kind, hands on experience. You start with live sound equipment, learning how to put it together, how it works, and how to run sound at a live show. Then, you take what you learned in a live setting and translate that into recording equipment and studio basics. You'll use ProTools recording software and all of our pro gear, so you get to experience what it's really like to work with this equipment. This class is the perfect for NYSM students who are already playing and are interested in starting to record their own material.
