Director

Ms. Yost began studying piano at age six and when in high school decided to pursue music as a career. While an undergraduate student at Augustana College and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, Ms. Yost studied with pianists Dr. Rick Andrews, Dr. Donald Patterson and Mrs. Penelope Ceccini. In 2004 she completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and moved to Dallas to study with Dr. Sam Holland and Mr. Alfred Mouledous at Southern Methodist University. While there, Ms. Yost taught students of all ages in the preparatory department and also was an undergraduate class piano instructor for music majors and non-majors. In 2006 Ms. Yost graduated with a Master's Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy.

CMM has been a very special place for my three kiddos these past 3 years. Miss Kristin and staff are wonderful and the live performance opportunities (even during these challenging times) are a nice opportunity to share what they’ve been working on. If you’re looking for lessons (virtual or in person), check out The Centre for Musical Minds.

Our children have taken piano lessons here for years. We love that they learn a mix of classical and pop music. The teachers are all so engaged and wonderful with children. We have worked with everyone from masters students to studio founders and have had great experiences. We appreciate that the school works hard to create meaningful experiences around their concert series. Over the past year of the pandemic, we have had a mix of in-person and virtual lessons and feel that the teachers have done a wonderful job with virtual lessons when they’ve been necessary. I have and do recommend this school to friends who are looking for a high standard of teaching in a nurturing atmosphere.

Kristin and I shared a common student for years and I got a good glimpse into the philosophy and approach to music at CMM: student-centered, build on passion and curiosity, and couched in a growth mindset. I would highly recommend CMM for those seeking an holistic approach to music ed.

Amazing teachers and methodology!
I have known Kristin Yost for a long time and I love how she always tries to evolve as a teacher, and brings along the other teachers.
Your kid will have fun playing on the instruments that are of great quality, while exploring music with the innovative teacher - or try it for yourself! It's good for the brain to learn to play an instrument - no matter the age!

CMM offers far more than your traditional piano lessons. If you want your child to develop a love for all music genres and be able to perform a variety of styles, CMM is the ideal music studio to nurture the young or older student's talent. Why limit a child's ability to only learning to play the piano (along with theory), when they can learn to accompany themselves while they sing, and maybe even sing a song they've composed. All this and so much more is what CMM can offer. It's a gem!

Centre for Musical Minds has provided an amazing musical journey for my daughter, Chloe! Kristin's nontraditional approach and recognition of her students' interests has not only challenged Chloe, but kept her engaged when most music students get bored. If you're looking for a piano lessons, I highly recommend trying them!

From Our Website

The Centre for Musical Minds provides piano lessons in person on high end grand pianos, and online, for all ages and stages. We have provided lessons online around the world (from India to South Dakota and beyond) since 2013. CMM is the first music school in Frisco to incorporate Artificial Intelligence in the learning process. With technology doing some of the heavy lifting, our students are able to learn more music, at a faster rate and more thoroughly, than any other music school in the area.

Our favorite book for kids - "Not Until You've Done Your Practice: The classic survival guide for kids who are learning a musical instrument, but hate practicing." 2. Whatever you do, make sure you practice right after your lesson AND the day following - retention will be 90%! Our three favorite books for parents who would like some advice on getting the most out of their music lessons.

We are thrilled that you are taking the time to read about who is educating your children, or maybe even you. The Centre for Musical Minds was founded in 2008 by myself, Kristin Yost, M.M. and Dr. Sam Holland, who is Dean of the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University. Dr. Holland and I wanted to create a music lesson center to educate and excite the inner musician of students young and old. Most importantly, we want to make music (in particular, piano study) relevent to the community.
